January 6, 2011 - Recently I rhapsodized at some length about the charms of the 2007 Mont Damnes from Pascal Cotat. Well, if this takes second banana to that wine, it's not by much. In fact, if your main criteria are cut, delineation, and sheer transparency, this wine easily stands shoulder to shoulder with the more expensive Cotat. The wines are very similar, as befits their shared vineyard sites and similar elevage in old, neutral barrels. The Thomas-Labaille, though, shows just a touch more varietal identity in apposition to the Cotat's zen-like, 'nowhere and everywhere' flavor profile. There's a hint of grassy herbaceousness, as well as a lemondrop citrus core, that beautifully offset the springy minerality that seems to literally bubble up within the glass. Later, a lovely touch of bergamot and an aroma strongly evocative of juniper berries emerge to add just a bit of bite, coupled with a mildly spiritous quality that in this context I don't find offputting. Terrific length and precision, and enough acidity to make you drool. With the way I've lionized these two Sancerre recently... maybe I do like Sauvignon, after all.

May 31, 2010 - The color is very pale straw. There is no bouquet. The flavor is very lemony with a touch of minerality. this was an easy to drink wine. I had it chilled with Bass. It was a wonderful combination.

May 4, 2010 - Grapefruit, citric, quality, bit of RS. Aggressive and unapologetic.

January 9, 2010 - Really enjoyable - great balance of citrus and minerality - almost a slight honeyed tinge. Lingering finish.

October 9, 2009 - This is a lovely, fresh tasting, nicely balanced wine. There are strong elements of citrus and some minerality, but the citrus predominates. It went very well with bass, but also with turkey the next evening.
