  February 13, 2024 - A pleasant surprise after my last bottle over 4 years ago. Dark purple-red with the slightest fading at the rim. Intense blueberry aroma. Intense and juicy on the palate. Blackberry, blueberry, anise. Still evident tannins which need some time to soften. Nice acidity and balance. Finishes long, long, intense with black cherry and blackberry. Brightens and more red-fruited with air. If you drink it in the next 2 to 3 years decant it for 2 hours. Drink for 5 to 6 years more.

  That said, this was, much like Sean, a mystery, wrapped in an enigma, that took two hours to show itself, then started revealing the mysteries of the universe as told through the lens of an inscrutable blend of myriad grapes. Certainly powerful, the wine also had immense complexity, supported by California sunshine that sustained dark fruit with more than enough depth to carry through for another 18 years. Hiding behind that black fruit curtain was a roaring wood fire, and a dripping haunch of wild game, basted with bacon drippings, and infused with wild herbs and hillside brush. All I needed was a cabin in the woods, and a good book. Magic.

  December 29, 2022 - Last bottle of the 2006, and has declined since the previous one. Overpowering oak, same on day 2, may not even finish the bottle. Disappointing, guess I held it too long.

  August 13, 2019 - Chalk this up to another wine that I-Just-Don't-Get. A subtle, floral and spice nose. Rich, dense fruit, blueberries, cherries, a hint of sweetness (not RS). The acidity is a bit too bright, smooth tannins. A moderate finish of little distinction. Nothing awful in this wine, it just seems too much a one-note-johnny. At this age I don't see it getting better or developing any complexity.
