April 2, 2020 - Medium ruby, amber tint. A prune-inflected nose gives way to very ripe raspberries and garrigue, then toffee. But the 2007 VD highlights a stylistic weakness I sometimes am struck by at this domain: their wines can seem awkwardly put together and unbalanced. Here I would say that comes through on the palate: some of the underlying grenache was probably overripe, and they tried to compensate with rather tart syrah in the blend. It works, to a degree, with that note of sweetness that appeals to many rhone fans, but the wine seems hot (14.5%) and a bit brutish.

March 21, 2020 - Somewhat subdued. Hints of the barnyard funk that I love in cdp. Tannins smooth with balanced + acid. Not as good as my last bottle but might have been a touch cool on serving.

March 10, 2020 - Once again a nice melange of fruit, anise, and a distinct saline note, very smooth and integrated. It's more voluptuous than some will like.

February 29, 2020 - I thought this was great. Decanted gently for about 20 minutes before dinner. Deep purple in color. Flavors of black pepper, currant jelly, sage and tobacco. Really an enjoyable CdP.

February 23, 2020 - This magnum was in a weird place. There is a lot of material in this big, brooding wine. It hints at the old school elements typically found in wines from VD, but also shows a lot of ripeness and an unnerving, disjointed acidity on the mid palate. Needs some time to round out. I assume it will. (90)
