Community Tasting Notes 22

July 21, 2018 - Third note on this wine with the last being about four years ago. Although I thought it was over the hill four years ago, this was the best showing. Plenty of fruit, still elegant in weight. Did not show well second day open.

January 30, 2018 - Found this orphan in the back of the cellar. Perfect cork, medium ruby, popped and poured. Tannins fully resolved but in really nice balance. Elegant with a nice long finish. A nice surprise!

January 26, 2014 - A pretty ruby that seems to have seen its better days. Much lighter and thinner than expected, with strawberry and cherry fruit, clove spice and tea. The thinness is most apparent on the back in which, in turn, becomes astringent. Short finish. One would think it was likely better younger but really not a lot of change from the note of just over 3 years ago.

December 23, 2013 - Very balanced and well integrated acid, fruit and tannin. Had it with barbecued duck and garlic sauteed bok choy. It paired well.

August 28, 2013 - Nicely improved from a bottle of 21 months ago. Some of the angles have rounded out, leaving a taught, high-toned wine that is like to continue to improve from here. Full spectrum of red fruit on the nose -- cranberry, strawberry, raspberry and, as before, a hint of watermelon -- with notes of cut grass, pine needle and baking space. On the palate, more cranberry with cherry, black cherry and baking spice. Chalky tannin and a mineral note add a pleasing grippy dimension. Very good.
