September 30, 2023 - The joy of a forgotten bottle in the cellar. I have stopped drinking Barossa Shiraz a good ten years ago not because I think the quality was bad, but just because I have stopped liking these full bodied wines. So when I found this last left over bottle I thought to give it a try with the right food. It was a very nice surprise, Greenock Creek being a top producer that part was of course not surprising. TN: Expressive nose of to torefaction, licorice, blackberry intermixed with noticeable tertiary notes around smoke, leather. The palate is rich, with sweet spices, no signs of oxidation or cooked fruit. There is enough freshness and the tannins are top notch, creating a soft mouthfeel. Popular at the table.

January 22, 2019 - Deep red, no sign of age. Nose of black fruit, anise, mushrooms, cedar. Lots of fruit in the mouth. A bit sweet. Nice long finish. Good for its type and should last a while but no longer to my taste. Got distracted by those high Parker scores back in the day.

December 5, 2014 - Amazingly youthful for a 15 year-old Aussie shiraz! Still garnet, with slight brown at the edges, still almost completely opaque. Very pronounced complex aroma of blackberries, black cherries, smoky oak, slight herbal notes. Very rich and full on the palate, some licorice along with dark fruits; perfectly balanced, a medium-full-bodied wine without significant tannin. The aftertaste is very long, with black fruits and licorice building on the finish, slightly hot. This is an outstanding wine which has aged beautifully. It has not gone beyond its plateau but is fully mature and should be consumed soon.

November 14, 2014 - Just a very lovely mature shiraz. Dark rich fruit with a pleasing herbacious note on the midpalate (sage) and a long finish. Popped and pours and was really best after the first hour.

January 3, 2014 - Dark - very dark ruby. Expressive nose of to torefaction, licorice, blackberry with some leather, clearly Barossa and not Rhone. On the palate dense, warm and fruity without being oxidative. This is a big wine but not over the top which Roennfelt Road of he same house often is. Nevertheless, my guests drank this next to a Chave Hermitage and preferred the later for its greater aromatic complexity and freshness. But if you like OZ Shiraz, Grenoock Creek has been one of my favorite producers for a long time.
