  February 7, 2010 - Got this bottle from Opolo's wine club (when we were members) for $23.20 and drank with traditional meatballs-and-sausage pasta. This is a very typical Opolo red, meaning it's very smooth, nicely American oaked, and very tasty. The nose is mostly smoky with suggestions of dark berries. The flavor profile is classic Opolo; very smooth tannins, just about the perfect amount of oak, nice ripe fruit, with a relatively clean, lingering finish. Our biggest problem with Opolo is that most of their wines taste VERY similarly (sp?), and this wine is a perfect example. Being an Italian varietal, this Sangiovese should be more tannic, rich, and very earthy. This wine was obviously "built" in the winery's style, which isn't a bad thing (smooth, soft tannins, delicious, etc.). We just wish Opolo would "assemble" their wines to be more true to a varietal's true expression. But this is still a very tasty Paso red.

  January 20, 2009 - This was very hot upon opening, so much so I swear I actually felt heat coming from the glass. Medium body of ripe bright berries and pepper. Will probably greatly improve with time in the bottle. I'd give it at least a year.
