January 15, 2014 - Drank over two nights, with and without food. 14.7% a.b.v. Brickish color with a large, clear meniscus. Powerful nose full of funk and wet earth, with some noticeable oak lingering in the background but nothing too overt. On the first night the palate was nicely balanced between ripe, well-concentrated fruit and bright fresh acidity. Full mouth feel. There's a slight paint thinner quality on the finish. After a few hours it slowly unraveled: the alcohol became very pronounced, the fruit changed from clean and fresh to funky and tired; at first it was definitely a Pinot Noir, as it opened it became more like an unbalanced Syrah/Grenache blend. Was nice with food, not so nice alone. By the second night it became completely unhinged.
