December 11, 2021 - Online Weinprobe - neue Welt - wäre bei Thelema Cab gewesen, ggf. the Mint. Napa hätte ich nicht erwartet, Ballance, Holz, nicht übertrieben dicht. Weniger Blut, Metall - sortenrein? - schönes Kräuterarrangement - Koalas wären begeistert

December 10, 2021 - Online Blind Tasting #10: What I wanted to drink: *** Note is based on 0,1l bottles filled about 2 days before the tasting from 0,75l bottle ***
Glass: Riedel Sommelier Bordeaux
Clear, deep ruby-garnet color. Clean, very interesting medium+ intense, developing nose. Fragrant, ethereal herbaceous with lots of fine red fruit, spices and bacon fat. Dense and rather complex.
Dry, lots of extract sweetness. If not drunk too warm, the high 14,5% abv are well integrated and the wine just felt a bit hot at the very end. High, fine, silky tannin. Full bodied without being broad. On the palate very spicy, fine red fruit (cranberries, strawberry, cassis), delicate oak. Very concentrated, deep and dense. Long and lingering finish, very fruity and spicy. Beautiful wine, that drinks nicely now but has potential for further improvement of 5+ years. 93+ -

September 2, 2018 - Murky dark red color with signs of age. Mentholated dark fruit compote aromas. Rich dark and red berry flavors, with a lengthy and rich, almost syrupy finish.

December 3, 2016 - Zachys Holiday - Dec 2016 (Smith & Wollensky (48th & 3rd Ave)): This was in contention for WOTD for me. Just drinking incredibly well. We opened and really should have decanted since the evolution on this was just incredible. Started as a big Napa fruit forward (lots of blackberry and blueberry). But then with time the brambles came through and the fruit mellowed out and the wine just came into a much better balance. Very much enjoyed. Great with steak. Sorry we just have the one.

February 21, 2015 - The lighter side of full-bodied, which is to say this is fully resolved now, with great harmony and balance between acids, fruits, etc. IIRC, my first Ampersand, and I came away impressed, again, thanks to the balance this showed after 10 years. In reading some of the older notes, this may have been pretty bulky/chunky in its early days, but now it's all about grace and purity. Cool blue fruits, sweet, fine tannins; good length. Aerated directly to decanter, this showed its best after the 1 hour open mark. Drink now and the next 5-6 years. recommended
