May 21, 2016 - A Crozes at its peak. Wonderful, rich bouquet offering a broad panoply of flavours: blackberries, leather, barnyard, clove, cardimum, soil, mushrooms. Complex, varied and shapeshifting, with real lift and expression. Gorgeous and replete with tertiary character. Palate is well poised, perhaps thinning a bit in the middle, but with soft tannins and plenty of acidity. Quite why Crozes is traditionally drunk young beats me. When they get to this 8-12 year window all that jammy Syrah puppy fat has blown off, leaving something altogether more serious, mysterious and magical behind. Thoroughly enjoyable.

February 13, 2016 - Two years since last tasting. This has a gorgeous, tertiary-rich nose on opening. Lots of soil, old leather, a touch of Crozes barnyard but not too much, complemented by mellow blackberry fruit. Most evocative, though does quieten down after a few hours. The palate is soft and plush, with dissolved tannins and some freshness yet. The fruit is starting to wane a bit as this gets into late middle age, but still a pleasure to drink.

January 11, 2014 - Opulent, savoury nose. Cedar, smoke, coffee, old leather, hide, mushrooms, ripe blue and black fruit berries. Carries though to the palate - rich and imposing, with enough tanins and acidity to keep ageing well. This is a wonderful Crozes.

October 25, 2013 - This is a savage. Aromas of animal hide, hung meat, barn yard, sage, sweet cigar tobacco and spice box. Behind that, in wonderful balance, are the black and blue berries, punching through that glorious, rustic savory scent with rich, concentrated sweetness. Tanins pull just right and acidity helps lift this impressive compote of farm tones. What a gorgeous wine. Drinking beautifully. Well done!

July 4, 2012 - Decanted but had a small glass immediately - was quite nice right out of the bottle. An extra hour allowed a bit of depth and softness to develop. Overall a deep, rich, meaty Rhone to be paired with any number of dark meats or (as we did) a hearty mushroom dish.
