August 8, 2013 - Wonderfully rich cocoa and cherry palate and a menthol nose. The tannins are bit rough - not terribly big, but just not well integrated with the wine. Moments of magic, but not making the grade.

November 13, 2010 - Enjoyed this in downtown Portland, at Lucy's Table. Popped and asked the waitress for a decanter...aromas of dark fruits, casis and dark chocolate. Took some time to open up, but when it did, a full bodied delight. The flavors of leather, dark chocolate came out, and the tannins mellowed out w/time. Went very well w/my wife's pork tenderloin, and my pork belly and pork cheek canneloni, yes I had the nerve to try this combination, but it worked nicely. An excellent merlot, for the $15-$20 retail price, $34 at the restaurant. Tastes like a more expensive wine, very solid offering.

October 3, 2010 - Dark purple in the glass, with all of the characteristics we would look for in a real-deal merlot. Medium black-fruit nose, but an explosive palate of rich fruit: blackberry compote, some leather and smoke, and soft tannins. Definitely a merlot that a cabernet-lover would appreciate. Not much earthiness or background complexity, but well made and balanced with a fine, long finish.

February 21, 2010 - This deep ruby colored wine is full of intense black cherry and currant flavors wrapped in fragrant aromas of blackberries and boysenberries with the subtle spicy character of pepper and anise. The addition of cabernet sauvignon, bolsters supple tannins and supports the spiciness resulting in a rich, velvety texture. A light, but lively level of acidity keeps the flavors alive and nuanced hints of vanilla and spice linger on through a long finish.

(Charles Krug Merlot) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-strawberry Twizzlers w/ roasted peppers; PALATE-nice black cherry flavors; some strawberry; pretty creamy, but not too oaky; quite clean; nice dark fruit; I think this has more body than many merlots (Cab drinkers might like); a solid merlot; GV-87/88
