Community Tasting Notes 1

February 13, 2009 - Paper filtered and decanted yielding a light dust of sediment and a bright garnet colored liquor with a fresh smell of red fruit and a bit of barnyard must. First tastes were a bit acidic with a tart finish that I feared would get stronger as it aired. We were pleasantly surprised by how quickly this one opened up and became a broadly red-fruit driven monster on the palate with a fine finish of cherries and strawberries. Because of the acid, there was no underlying sappiness to detract from the freshness of the ripe fruit flavors. An extraordinarily fresh wine for the 25+ years it has had in the bottle.
