October 18, 2010 - I like Malbecs in general and had high expectations for enjoying this one as well. But, it is one-dimensional and lacking in the complexity that I associate with the best of the Malbec taste. The nose is weak and has a bit of black cherry and coffee to my sense. The taste is blackberry and spice with some anise. I sense light tannins and a soft finish with some acidity at the start. I would overall rate this lower than I would have hoped with the spice being weaker and the fruit much less present than I would have expected from an Argentine wine maker. In comparison to a European blend it feels too simple and lacking in the complexity that I would expect from an Old World Malbec. So, alright QPR, but not at the best ($14.99/bottle). One other note is that this is unfined and unfiltered and 13.8% alcohol.
