July 14, 2010 - Spent a few days in Santa Barbara for our 20th anniv. Decided to pay a visit to Los Olivos and enjoy a tasting at Tensley. Unfortunately, I forgot to retain the info regarding each bottle that was poured, except for the Lea Rose. Without a syrah from the Colson Canyon (I was hoping for any vintage from there), the other reds just didn't provide a pleasant drinking experience for me. We were told that one of the reds was aged longer - it seemed like it was starting to go bad, which was acknowledged by the host, a very nice lady who was quite informative and a pleasure to listen to. That line-up of reds was not exactly what I had hoped for, especially since I have been purchasing the CC syrah for several years. Sadly, the Lea whites that were first poured weren't impressive at all. That being said, what I found interesting was that during the time that we were there, Mrs. Tensley was talking on the phone, easily consuming a healthy glass of wine (unless they store something else in a wine bottle that she obtained from their small refrigerator) while she conducted business. She HAD several opportunities in between calls to say a quick hello as she positioned herself in our direction (we were the only ones in at the time), but after a while, she took her glass, refilled it, said a few things to our host, and left. I was going to buy a few items to take with us (several shirts, hats, and a half dozen of the Thompson Vineyard syrah to see if some more bottle age would help) , but my wife said that our purchases should be made from those who have enough courtesy to at least say hello, and appreciate the people who walk into their store. I had to agree, so we went from there to Demetria (you need to schedule an appt. with them for tastings), where, after a WONDERFUL experience, I spent over $400 on their wines. Needless to say, I will continue to purchase Tensley's Colson Canyon syrah, and although I may have caught Mrs. Tensley at a bad time, I won't be returning to Tensley for any future tastings. On the other hand, I will be bringing a GROUP to Demetria for my next visit.

February 16, 2010 - Scrumptious, soft strawberry that lingers long after your sip... The best Rose I have tasted this season, and maybe for a few years!
