    February 14, 2011 - Aroma of leather, with blackberry fruit and spice. One hour after opening the flavors were still dominated by the freshly tanned leather flavors formerly common in young reds (especially many of the Italian reds of yore). At the two hour mark, the fresh leather is still present, but is has melded with flavors of dark blackberry and anise. Lingering peppery finish. More tannic and aggressive than the last bottle, and it took a while longer to come into balance. Still, quite a good wine.

    Day 2: Tannic flavors very muted, if not completely gone. Flowers and tart fruit on the palate. Well balanced and satisfying now, bottles of this wine could well be even better in the future.

    November 27, 2010 - Just a huge whiff of barnyard that did not blow off over the four hours of the tasting. Dark red color. Flavors of tar and roses and tobacco, but on a lighter frame.

This has somber cherry aromas, and classic cabernet franc tart and earthy fruit on the palate. As the name suggests, this emulates the style of the Loire, and it does it well. Let's be clear, Baudry is still safe for now, but this is a fine effort at a fine price (under $20). Could Long Island finally be turning into a real wine region rather than a millionaire's fantasy playground?
