June 19, 2021 - The perfidious cork is the closure, but tonight it bears no malice. This note made about 20 mins after opening, no decant (we fear it so).

From a hot, dry year but with a splendid Autumn giving the grapes a chance to hang.

A deep garnet and brick colour, with little fading to the rim. The last bottle I had was much more brick in colour.

Nose is potent, heady and speaks of macerated black fruits. This is a much bulkier wine than the last bottle from this vintage that I poured down my miserable gullet. Personally. I preferred the more restrained wine I had previously but this is very jolly. Both bottles are closer to Bordeaux than usual in Oz Cabernets, but think Bordeaux in 2003, for example.

Palate is surprisingly fresh, the tannins are resolved and now merely provide a support to the double E fruit, which is still well and truly rocking. Intensities in 10 Cities and length is more like Stranglehold than Wang Dang Sweet Poontang. What a shame Ted N ended up believing his own BS, because the songs speak of a tremendous piss taker, not the wacko from Waco caricature he has become.

But back to the wine; this is very enjoyable and well worth hunting down at auction, or using your best miners to tunnel into someone's cellar. The points score could be up or down a point or two, depending on how you feel about the heat in this wine. Speaking of heat, I am now inspired to go looking for Stormy, whose statuesque bearing speaks of this wine and this wine, like her eyes has a certain sparkle. Nyaw!

April 22, 2019 - debating whether it was the perfect time to open or whether should have waiting yet another year or two - clearly has much more time that I thought it would. extraordinarily smooth. finished off bottle 10 hours later and it may have been even better.

October 22, 2017 - Still showing some fruit characters, and blended in seamlessly with the acids and tannins. Just lacking a little sparkle tonight.

May 14, 2016 - Decanted and served immediately. Lovely balance here of fruit and secondary flavours. Harmonious. Lovely with food.

February 28, 2015 - Cork barely stained. Still retaining a deep, bright hue. Aromas jump from the glass - black fruits, cassis, pencil shavings, hint of chocolate and tobacco. The palate is mid-weight and so well balanced. Delicious drinking. Could easily last another 5+ years on this showing.

(Yeringberg) High-pitched strawberry nose; weird, red fruit, oak palate; medium finish (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec)
