December 3, 2022 - Balanced and clean, very correct and well made, somewhat light, quite typical for the vintage and more or less ready, albeit with many years to go. The fruit is sound and healthy, the tannin is presnet, but not overwhelming.

July 17, 2021 - Under cork, of course, so who knows what the next bottle will be like. Opened and decanted about 8 hours before this note.

Colour is deep, brick red, with some fading at rim, as you tilt the glass.

On first opening this wine seemed quite oaky and there was some rich fruit, in the prune spectrum. Now, the wine smells well integrated, fully mature, dominated by aromas of truffle, earth, baked beef bones, some prune elements and a slightly sherried note.

In the mouth the wine delivers flavours dominated by prune, truffle and earth, with oloroso sherry to finish. Tannins remain quite plentiful on the finish, fairly fine but certainly not resolved. This works well with lamb backstrap in a red wine reduction sauce. You might score this a little higher, or a bit lower, depending on how you feel about a wine that is fully mature and how you perceive the tannins and that note of sherry at the end.

January 1, 2019 - New Year's Day, 2019 Pokai Parera (Pokai Parera, Ekatahuna, New Zealand): Drunk next to the extraordinary 2004, the '05 came across as similarly compelling, but slightly more forward That's not to say that this wine was well-mannered! It was till really tannic in the mouth, but one could detect a certain suppleness that was starting to express itself! The '04 is the greater wine, but today, the '05 offers a glimpse of what will come with patience. Only just approachable now (in my view), and greater things are certainly in store (say in 6 - 11 years...) 92+++

February 25, 2018 - Very enjoyable, but I was expecting a bit more from this big name wine.
Not quite full-bodied, but did get better after 1-2 hour decant.
