June 14, 2014 - Unlike its 2008 brethren, this iteration of the 42 Degrees South Pinot Noir is not offensive, just not special. The label says that the wine was aged for five years in bottle prior to being released, something which simply does not make sense. This Pinot would have been better two or three years ago. Currently it is light garnet in color and shows primarily citrus, earth and spice on both the nose and palate. Light-bodied and with little in the way of tannic grip, the wine's best assets are its fresh acidity and nicely integrated alcohol (13.5%). Thinning just a bit in the middle, it closes with a resurrected finish of medium length. Drink now-2016.
