February 26, 2023 - From my late father’s cellar, and shared with my mom who considered the 1992 of this bottling to be her “epiphany” wine. While a little short on fruit, this was not short on savory, overall flavor and polish. Just a gorgeous presentation, and deep, long sustain that carried earth, soy and saline - a total umami bomb. Properly cellared since release, so I suspect reports of bottles with ample fruit are just the even luckier side of the draw. That said, mom and I finished this off in short order.

November 6, 2022 - Vinetasters: Howell Mountain (Park Ridge, IL): Served double blind. An interesting nose with a little bit of oak funk on the nose. A mix of red and black fruit, with a touch of the herbaceousness that comes with American oak (and for that reason I thought that this might have been a Ridge wine). Nice intensity and depth of fruit here. My 2nd, group's 2nd.

February 13, 2022 - Loads of fruit here. Baked plum. Hints of BBQ sauce. Plenty of tannin that is actually a bit astringent. Solid acidity. Its hard to get past the amount of rich fruit still present here. It certainly leans ripe but obviously had enough backbone to let it leave a long time. On fruit alone this wine has another couple decades in it. The tannin and acid don't contradict that. Seems to be in the secondary world. Maybe not quite midpoint even. A luscious old Merlot built the classic way. Delish.

July 10, 2020 - Gifted by a friend for my birthday. For a 25 year old California wine, absolutely stunning. PnP’d very minty on the nose, changed to a coffee and light earth with plum about an hour in. Amazingly medium acidity on the pallete dark berry, plummy, herby. To my amazement no tertiary forest floor characteristics in a 25 year old wine. Beautiful.
