Community Tasting Notes 1

May 2, 2014 - Popped and immediately feared the worst. This had a funky, stewed quality to the nose and also tasted slightly off. With nothing to lose, I decanted this for three hours, which yielded a major improvement. The core is opaque rosewood in color, with a brick-hued rim. Nose of stewed tomatoes (in a good way this time), as well as Kalamata olives, shoe polish and mocha. The palate has some subtle black fruit flavors, with lots of freshly-sanded cedar wood notes. A little residual tannin remains, poking up at the end like two vast and trunkless legs of stone in the desert. This was probably best about five or eight years ago. Drink now, but give it some air before you do.
