April 21, 2021 - Owned since release and stored properly. Opaque dark red with brown tones. Double decanted shortly before service. This is an outstanding wine that is holding up beautifully. The tannins and acid are still fully in place, but are fully mature and in balance. Excellent red fruits still gushing out. While fully mature, this is holding up perfectly and will live at least 7-10 years if properly kept.

May 2, 2017 - 1978 RIDGE YORK CREEK SPRING MOUNTAIN PETITE SIRAH [2 btls]- fabulous wine, especially bottle #2; it was truly magnificent replete with spicy, pepper, liquorice, blueberry and black cherry fruit served up in a medium to full weighted body carrying all of its treasures to the back end; beyond all of these pleasures was the hallmark of incredible balance.

April 14, 2014 - There was nothing objectively wrong with this wine, but I think I just really don't like Petite Sirah. Pitch-black fruit, like a licorice Twizzler, straightforward and with a porty character that others at the table noted. Enough tannin to go awhile longer.

April 14, 2014 - Massive black fruit, almost porty in character (but without the sweetness or alcohol). Still quite structured, but it's all a bit monolithic and not all that interesting. This will last forever in a cold cellar but will it ever develop much complexity?
