Community Tasting Notes 7

August 1, 2020 - Nose of lightly oxidized apples, mango, pineapple and bruised pear. Still a great fresh acidity and is still drinking very well, but should also be drunk now. Very good wine and always surprised about its freshness each time I drink it

May 1, 2020 - Never had anything like it - on the nose super expressive notes of pear and passion fruit like childhood yoghurt - great acidity and balance - medium finish. Not overly complex but very enjoyable indeed! Amazing for 14 yr austrian of the beaten track white wine!

February 9, 2019 - Back to life, back to reality. After a cray week of drinking Bordeaux and Burgundies, it's time to return to the more affordable (and at times more interesting) vin naturel. The first time I tasted Ex Vero with Newcomer Wines in Wine RVLT I was fucking blown away by how expressive this wine was. At first, it reminded me of Marjan's Opoka range (truth be told, it's grown on the same soils), but I figured out afterwards that this really has its own sense of place. ‘Ex Vero’ means just that - ‘from truth’ - reflecting Ewald’s approach - to make honest, authentic wines that capture terroir beautifully.

Deep orange in the glass. Fantastic nose giving way to a wide range of aromas from tropical/yellow fruit to secondary and tertiary tones of dried apple chips, honey, toast, forest floor and flint. Very linear palate showing blasting acidity, but a good dose of compact richness as well. Both of these traits keep punching you in the mouth until you pick the right food to defuse them. Long, salty-mineral finish that wraps up the wine with charm. Ready to drink now, but it's really just starting to show its true self. 12/10 would buy again.

November 21, 2015 - Reductive notes on the nose, red, baked apple, herbal, mineral. On the palate fresh and vibrant, quite intense and slightly mineral. Very persistent. Intriguing. 91-93

February 8, 2014 - Rootstock 2014: Spice, lemon and jasmine. Soft palate but has some herb notes to give it some interest. Medium length.
