January 5, 2009 - clear, ruby, transparent,ppr wwm t f/f clean, deep rich erthy balanced purple flower and fruit aroma, xmas spice, red floral, light and ballerina, some evidence of oak and tobacco palate: dry, acid is med tannin is med, body is med alc is est 13 length is med+ finish is tobacco, a burnt carmelized quality, strange exotic Chinese fruit (lychee?), flav intensity is med+ flavs are exotic fruit (ed, fresh, yet smoked) some oak, ripe yet not heavy fruit note that this was blind tasted ... here are my initial thoughts climate: cool region: old world vintage 2005 on varietal: thinking cab franc … thinking it may be a cab franc from loire or s/w france (did not say north fork and it is!) what is interesting here is that it is only two percent cab franc yet the taste is what I rememver from north fork cab franc! pair with grilled salmon, pasta, even salads if it includes a protein

1/6/2009 (link) 2 out of 5 stars(Channing Daughters Winery Rosso Fresco) This wine, Channing Daughters 2007 Rosso Fresco ($18) is a blend of 80% merlot, 14% syrah, 2% blaufrankisch, 2% cabernet franc and 2% dornfelder. It's the second vintage for this wine, which replaced the "Fresh Red" merlot (called Fred by fans). I didn't love the 2006 and I don't love this one either. The nose is interesting and unqiue with oak aromas mingling with smoke, grilled meat and earthy notes, but there is very little fruit character here at all. A medium-bodied palate houses flavors of earth, smoke, spice with a little red cherry, but low tannins and acidity leave it a bit soft for my tastes. A bit more acid would really help.
