April 19, 2019 - Bottle bought directly from Castillo Banfi near Montalcino back in 2012. Nice complexity, almost inpenetrable. Definetly a flowery bouquet also. Very masculine, earthy and rich in minerals. Must be the syrah in the blend providing the complexity.

May 7, 2016 - I've held this for years in the cellar and time was ripe to open on Mother's Day weekend as my daughter and son-in-law came up from NYC. Fantastic super Tuscan wine with earthy notes, spicy fruit and a long finish. Great effort by Banfi.

March 10, 2016 - Pop and poured. Drank over 1 hour. Quick session at ES with Clarence.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purple colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of woody spice, menthol, and an almost impenetrable wall of dark black stuff. Welcome to the dark side: Dark earth, ripe black cherries, sun-baked leather. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), dusty chewy high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark earth, woody spice, menthol, leather, black cherries, black plums, slight licorice. Long finish.
A formidable powerhouse kind of wine. Brawny and masculine, hulky and kind of brutish. Elegance has been thrown out of the window.
Good quality. Some may like this. This is no longer my preferred style. Will last another 5 years easily. Oak has sort of already integrated, and methinks the flavour profile will stagnate, possibly smoothening out a little that's all.
    40% Sangiovese, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Syrah.

January 22, 2013 - An Oak Bomb, in my opinion. It was brooding and dominated by the oak the first night, when about a glass and a half were drunk. After uncorking the remaining wine the next night, it was pretty dreadful. Poured it down the sink with an 82 (generous) for the score. No more Banfi for me.

March 3, 2010 - Tasty Sangio/Cab/Syrah Super Tuscan. The Syrah adds a little more complexity and brooding depth to the usual Sangio/Cab/Merlot blend. Spice, oak and goodness.
