August 16, 2020 - This ‘03 has surprisingly balanced alcohol, along with very nice weight and polish on the mouthfeel. Nice flavors of dried strawberry, red plum sauce, black pepper, dried flowers, and some sandalwood lead into a finish mark by espresso and a beautiful iodine minerality that lingers on the palate. Tannins are still firm and present, even chewy on the finish. The fruit is a touch faded. Showed well but time to drink up. 65% Grenache 15% Mourvèdre 15% Syrah with some other varieties from La Crau’s famous Molasses soils. It was aged for 22 months in foudres before being bottled unfiltered. 17,000 cases made.

July 1, 2020 - Very delicious, consistent with my previous notes, with a tiny bit of prune flavor on the edge of the palate. Still great weight and structure, but this bottle starting to show its age. Will happily test another soon!

June 13, 2020 - Sorry to see this go. Last bottle. Still has a lot of backbone. Earthy fruit and all that. Very solid.

June 6, 2020 - Surprising fruit forward, very tamed tannins. Blueberries, black cherries, licorice, and anise. Well integrated and drinking beautifully. Needs a serious decant and patience. I would decant for at least two hours before imbibing.

(Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf du Pape) Lots of lovely, very primary, fruit on the nose, which has a rich cherry confit character. This carries through onto the palate, which is full and creamy, with a lovely depth of fruit. Behind it all lies a wall of tannin, although there does seem to be a wealth of fruit to match this. Unremarkable acidity, nevertheless this will also improve in bottle, and has very good potential.
