January 9, 2020 - Still has a lot of life in it. Ripe brambly kirsch nose, smooth red-fruited midpalate with medium tannins on the finish. No sign of heat, but probably in a good place to drink now, before the tannins outstrip the fruit.

December 9, 2017 - Opened two bottles of this. One was double decanted and one was pnp. My suggestion is that this wine needs some air to open up and soften the tannins. Hence, you should give it a short decant. Lots of dark currant, herbs, pepper, and sweet vanilla oak on the nose and palate. The tannins has softened. This is a juicy and powerful napa wine without being too overwhelming and oaky. The fruit is lush and ripe. Drinking very well now.

September 23, 2017 - Still big and bold 10 years in--plum-briary-dark berry. Almost enough to chew on. Very well balanced for its alcohol.

May 20, 2017 - 39th Annual Zinfandel Retrospective - the 2012s (R&D's): Earthy red fruit notes have a slight sour quality. Notes of spice and pepper in the background. Red plum and dark berry fruit with a peppery finish. I like this, and it paired very nicely with the sauce on the brisket.
