Community Tasting Notes 10

November 13, 2023 - a pleasant surprise. Aging lower to mid level petite syrahs has been a mixed bag for me. My last bottle of this was 13 years ago. This showed much much better, tannins have softened, though some are still present, it has developed some bottle boquet. It's still monolithic in that way petites tend to be, but smooth and a pleasant quaff. previous bottle about 87-88 pts, this one 90ish

August 17, 2014 - The wine looks inky colored. The legs are slow. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry and vanilla. It tastes like blackberry and plum. The body is medium/full. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.

May 1, 2013 - Decanted for several hours first. Lots of sediment in this one. The nose started off nice with blackberry. The palate was full bodied with a gritty texture and very harsh. I expected more here, but it did not deliver. Glad it is last bottle. 4,12,13,5=84

March 13, 2013 - Dark and inky. Enjoyed with friends and did not take notes but everyone seemed to like this one.

August 19, 2012 - Decanted for two hours. Lots of sediment (expected as this wine is unfiltered). Color dark, dense inky purple. Nose has aromas of blackberry, vanilla, with a hint pepper. Palate is big and full. Another reviewer commented on the acid. I agree very present along with lingering tannins. Emptied decanted into glasses and let sit for another hour then tried with grilled burgers. Some what rough and gritty on the finish, needs a little more time. I have two more bottles and will let them cellar more before trying again. 5,13,13,6=87
