December 5, 2021 - This was a wonderful wine. Beautiful nose. Great follow on flavors. Smooth and soft with great length.

The color was turned slightly to brick, so probably not a lot of time left to enjoy this. But for now this is a wonderful wine.

November 5, 2019 - Popped and poured. This beauty is at its peak. Its lost the baby fat and big fruit of youth (I last had this in 2011) and replaced with lovely subtle notes of cherry, mushroom and earth. Softened tannins but still a solid acid spine holding the wine together firmly. Should be on this lovely plateau for 5 more years. Really quite good and more elegant than so many Russian River valley pinots.

January 16, 2019 - A California Pinot for Burgundy lovers. I don't hold my Scherrer Pinots this long, but this one eluded me until tonight. It's a beauty. Cherry pit, truffle, sous bois, with orange peel on the finish. Tannins are soft and it is drinking so well now, I don't see this getting any better. None of that cherry cola many Russian River Pinots show. Fred makes the wines I love.

August 10, 2017 - Popped and poured. Darker ruby color. Nose of crushed raspberry, black cherry, forest floor, lilac. Full-bodied but quite well-defined on the palate with layers of raspberry, mulberry, and cherry rolling out deliciously. Fresh acidity and firm but filed off tannin balancing all that fruit. Long, ringing finish of tart dark berry, earth, and very satisfying grip. A blast of a big pinot but with such unabashed transparency you gotta love it.

August 7, 2017 - Bottle #2 of 6. Big, brawny, and I mean seriously robust, for a pinot noir. This has a Hammer of Thor aspect to it that could keep it for another two decades. Huge, mid palate of blackberries and full of structure. I'd hold off on future bottle for another decade to see what this turns into. Some heat on the finish right now, but this may pass as the structure resolves. Or, it could be an imbalanced mess. I'd vote the former. Still spectacular after open in cellar for three nights. Potentially a 94-95 point wine, but loses points for an atypical pinot style right now.
