  April 16, 2013 - Very dark red/purple color. Poured into decanter and followed over 2.5 hours. This was good about 15 minutes into the glass, but holy cow was there a transformation over an hour plus. This was getting even better as the last drops were finished off two and a half hours later. Truly impressive. Nose shows light dry earth, cassis gives way to creme de cassis and raspberry notes, graphite, mixed spices. The palate is nicely layered, full bodied, gorgeous texture develops, cassis, raspberry, licorice, spicebox, fine grained tannins, coffee. The oak is well integrated and this has a long penetrating finish. Wow, I love these wines, and I can't believe how young they drink. They still have at least 5-10 years left. Unfortunately, this was my last 1999, but what a way to go out. 93+pts.

  January 31, 2012 - this was very enjoyable for what it is. a bit thin on the palate, slightly unbalanced acidity, but otherwise a classic older cali cab in smell and taste.
