Sakas Does not like this wine: 84 points
July 12, 2011 - I did not care for this as much as before. The oak is really dominating with dark berry fruit, plum, pepper, smoked meat and iron coming in underneath. Would have been a very nice wine but for the oak. bummer. If you like oak then you may like this but the oak is the first flavor that hits you and certainly seems to steamroll the other elements of the wine a bit.
This bottle had a perfect cork and was stored in a temp and humidity controlled environment since purchase. Didn't get the overwhelming oak on the last bottle a year and a half ago, perhaps bottle variation? Perhaps just closed for a bit? not sure. -

July 1, 2011 - Noticed a very faint tinge of of brown hues as I was aerating to decanter. Bouquet of baked black plum, dark cherries, tar and dark earth. A little disjointed on the palate, showing same flavors as aromas plus some prunes early on that I found less enjoyable. Over a 3 hour consumption, this had very little floral action in the nose and mouth, which sadly is one of the things I liked best about it in the past. Still very smooth, with licorice, tar, soil, and minerals weighing in a little more prominently than the dark fruit. Possibly an off representation, but not flawed by any means, and for where it was at I'm glad we opened this last bottle now rather than waiting another year or two.

August 21, 2010 - Decanted 1-2 hours. Some floral on the nose. Not bad but nothing special by any means.

April 17, 2010 - Very floral and somewhat mineral driven. Huge amount of sweet dark cherries. Almost medicinal with the cherry action. Very dry and chalky tannins. This is all after a 3.5 hour decant. Enjoyed with a porterhouse topped with grilled onions in a wine reduction. Can't see the 90+ though. 87. Possibly better with some bottle time. Would like to hold my other bottle for another few years or so before opening.

November 6, 2009 - Much more floral than the last bottle. Beautiful nose of fragrant rose apple, dark cherry, tobacco, tar and earth, all mirrored on the palate along with some bittersweet chocolate. An excellent showing, this wine held its own against an '01 Mas Doix Salanques and the '04 Quinta Do Quietud. At a price of 18 that I paid, this was an excellent value as it drinks well above that.
