  May 31, 2022 - Had to use the Ah-so on this 17 year old cork and still got a few floaters in the glass. There's some obvious bricking in the glass and the nose has some definite old world earthy funk so this is going to be interesting for sure. After a vigorous swirl and a deep sniff I'm getting a lot of leather, some kind of baking spice that I can't put my finger on, macerated ripe black cherries and just a hint of Liquid Smoke (the kind in the bottle). The first thing to hit the tongue is black cherry followed by a touch of that earthy forest floor. There's plenty of mouth watering acidity on the sides of the tongue giving way to a fairly long finish. This Spanish cab is still very much alive but may be nearing its zenith.

  May 8, 2021 - Nice layered cab with a milder tannic structure and acidity. Plum and cherry with something herbal that pops in as a second aroma and flavor layer. Decanted and filtered based on prior reviews. 90 minutes in the decanter and it was fine at dinner, so it might have a few years left on it, but I wouldn't wait too long. Went perfect with a beef arm roast. For the price it was a steal.

  February 28, 2021 - Solid wine. Throws a lot of fine sediment that was not filtered by fine mesh (in aerator). Did not decant. Served at cellar temp (51 F). Initial nose was earth with a background of cellar funk. Initial palette was fruit, followed by menthol. The menthol was Not unpleasant, but very unexpected. This was only detected on the initial taste, and that pattern held through 2 days of tasting. Also note that it was not a bottle variation as a second bottle showed the same “2nd hit” of menthol upon first sip. Wife also noticed the menthol hit, and we described it as nearly medicinal (cough syrup?), but not offputting. I “tasted” this in my sinuses, “up high”, but not after the first sip. 3rd wave of palette was cellar floor and spice. Tasty wine. Killer qpr. Probably has enough structure to hold up and develop further secondaries, if I can get some defenders to stand out front of this one before they run out.

  March 17, 2020 - I don't know what crazy-pants tasters think the fruit is fading in this wine. Very little fading/browning. Strong black cherry fruit nose with a hint of earth and a moderate alcohol hit. Its still mostly primary but has begun a transition to maturity. Really strong glycerin in this wine with good acidity, nice earthy middle, light mint and moderate drying tannins. Some moderate oak still showing. Very long finish. I just got a case of this and i think this has plenty of time left.
  
  The corks are a touch crumbly. I would use an Ah-so, Durand, or decant with a mesh screen.
