October 1, 2021 - Decanted for sediment. A little extra time in bottle really helped as this wine now shows some nice cedar cigar box and sweet tobacco notes to go along with a mix of sweet and dried red cherries, rose petal, baking spices. Similar flavors on the palate with a slight sweet/baked component to the fruit but really nice acidic lift. Medium tannins at this point. Paired great with fresh pasta in a mushroom and truffle cheese sauce.

November 17, 2020 - ≈20 min decant into a plastic, cylindrical pitcher which was then closed; NO visible sediment; Private Preserve after Day 1

    1,100 cases made

N: Leather, tar, notes of flowers (violets?), wild straws, poss cherries way below

P: LM body; Rndish entry with still nice, ALMOST swtish "frt" met by an astringent pucker which QUICKLY works its way into a LONG, albeit somewhat faint, balanced finish with its acidity, rather than the few very, VERY fine tannins, providing the firmness. Did well with tonight's COSTCO's Roasted Chx & Mashed Potatoes side. Those craving RIPE frt would want NOTHING to do with this food wine. And even fans of this style won't gain anything by cellaring this further, though it should be "safe" through '22, poss even approaching its 20th? My EXC (92,93/100 using that metric), + I'd listen to an argument for EXC+ based upon the QPR of the $29.99 pd for it in late Feb '19.
// Day 2: Showing a BIT of oxygenation (but likely within bounds given the wine's age), & not AS intense aromatically, but otherwise ≈. P held at least acceptably, though wasn't a match for the night's revisited Beef Chili & Beans [HmMd], which was MY fault as I was the only one imbibing, & it was therefore a good time to experiment with an nontraditional pairing. So, I'll stick with my "score" of Day 1 for this wine that I feel true Piemonte Nebbiolo fans would enjoy. 🙂 [As of late Nov '20, wine-searcher shows no sources for this vintage].

    Note: Also tasted on 4/1 & 9/29/17, + 5/5/20.

May 5, 2020 - ≈35 min decant into a plastic, cylindrical pitcher which was then closed; *Very* minimal, EXTREMELY fine sediment; Private Preserve after Day 1

    1,100 cases made

N: Earthiness with leather & spice atop roses with hints of tar; Licorice with swirling?

P: Med, poss LM, body; RNDISH entry with very NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which stays within hailing distance of the init frt as it seamlessly evolves into a surprisingly LONG finish with a PLEASANT, almost elegant, tangy/swtness to the FEW, *totally* innocuous, very, VERY fine tannins. Drinking MARVELOUSLY right now, & should continue into, probably through, '23, though I'd doubt further improvement. I thought a fine accompaniment to Stromboli & Calzone (both on the bready side of the spectrum), though the relatives (& I, later) DIDN'T with their Pizza (Thin Crust). My EXC, very arguably EXC+ for the QPR of the $29.99 @ which it was purchased in late Feb '19. // Day 3: Held very well, working nicely with the night's Smkd BBQ Chx, though I suppose this versatile food wine would pair well with various, not TOO assertively flavored, entrées. :) 95 (June 2013) & 93+ pts (Jan 2017) WA, 92 Suckling, 87 WS, and 17/20 Vinum. [As of mid May '20, wine-searcher shows no sources for this vintage].

    Note: Also tasted on 4/1 & 9/29/17.

April 22, 2020 - Poured a glass by Coravin. Medium translucent garnet with a perfumey, floral nose accented by cigar leaf and spicebox. Hits you with a laser beam of mouth-puckering candied sour cherry and cranberry flavors, which quickly fade into a soft, low-tannin finish. Not the most complex of wines and probably drinking at its apex now. Nose became more expressive and flavors lingered a bit longer after about an hour in the glass. Not sure when this was released but the first CT note is from 2012, and I bought mine in 2018, so it seems the folks at Punset might hold their releases until they're ready to drink.
