Community Tasting Notes 5

March 22, 2012 - Dense purple with modest bricking, medium weight. Aromas of wet earth, a high menthol note, plummy red fruit. On the palate there's piercing black cherry up front, and a subtle balance between the plum/fruit and pepper/spice elements; decent acid and a significant (but not overwhelming) grip. The fruit is present but relatively subdued -- a decidedly old world/anti-international offering. Continues to evolve for quite a while in the mouth, going first to woody/band-aid with maybe a hint of violet emerging at the very end. Minute long finish. This is a surprisingly complex and delicious bargain CdR. Perhaps not the most refined wine, but it has great typicity and style, and genuinely tastes as if it comes from a specific place -- which is really what I want most of all. Out of the park QPR (even more so given that I got it on sale for $10; but even at regular price it would have been a steal); wish I had bought more.

    February 21, 2011 - Certainly getting better with age...brilliant!

July 14, 2010 - This wine is getting progressively better with age. I have this wine once a year in the summer and enjoy tracking its progress. Fruit is becoming more evident, grainy tannins and a pleasing mouth-feel make for an opulent wine from the Cotes du Rhone appellation. Hooray!

March 16, 2010 - Blackberry and beef in nose, plus secondary Syrah band-aid (is 60:40 Grenache: Syrah). Fading palate majors on red-black cherry. Messy / not completely clean. V low acidity – this is at the end of its drinking window. Easy drinking qualities get it 87 over 86.
