Eudemis Likes this wine:
February 8, 2020 - 13% alcohol. Largely M, with a sprinkling of CF. Good long cork penetrated 25% of the way. Decanted an hour ahead. Bright medium colour with little sign of ageing.
The nose is good, if on the low intensity side, with ripe bell pepper aromas. The mouth displays some notes of élevage at times, but it has good balance and vivacity, as well as commendable grip. Some residual tannins.
Once you reconcile yourself to the concept of a Bordeaux without a single berry of CS (and I have to admit that I find this hard), you can start admiring the craftsmanship that went into this wine.
I like it better than the last bottle, but this still does not quite float my boat, and I can see why the Moueix family sold their entire holdings in Fronsac twenty years ago. Contrary to what many wine critics were saying at the time, the potential seems to me to be quite limited in that area.
Not a repeat purchase. -

November 14, 2018 - 13 % alcohol. The cork has good length and density; it is fully saturated for about a cm and stained superficially nearly all the way to the top. Decanted for an hour.
Dark colour with little sign of ageing. The nose in not very intense, but it is pleasantly vivid, with dark berries and a (welcome) hint of bell pepper to perk it up. The mouth is not quite as vivid, but is is pretty lively for a merlot-dominated wine; some blueberry if you look hard, and a toffee-like tertiary note (no sugar implied). Unfortunately, the alcohol is too prominent in the final, and this is my main complaint. No perceived oak and precious little tannins left. Fairly good grip nevertheless.
This drinks well now, and it will do so for another ten years, I would guess; whether or not it deserves that tenure in the cellar is another question.
This is from the Moueix era, probably the last vintage produced under their ownership, although they may have remained in an advisory capacity for a few more years. Nowadays, the chateau incorporates all the former Moueix properties in Fronsac and Canon-Fronsac, namely Canon-Moueix, Canon de Brem and La Croix Canon.
I cannot fault this wine in any major way, but I like it less than I used to. I certainly miss the sparkle of CS (none in the blend unless I am mistaken), and accordingly it is not a repeat purchase.
PS: a few days later (bottle recorked and kept in fridge), the wine is in excellent condition and it displays more grip, with the CF coming out. In fairness, it is a very well made wine. -

August 17, 2015 - This tasting underlines how good the 2000 La Dauphine could become after 15 years under perfect sleeping conditions. Still growing in flavour the wine is offering a dense flavour over a variety of classy notes.
Starting fresh and almost fruity at the beginning the wine developes full richness 2 hours after opening. Pure drinking pleasure that confirmes my guess that this wine will be at its top + 2-3y more if stored in cool and dark conditions my old cellar offers near river Isar. -
