Community Tasting Notes 11

April 28, 2019 - Nice texture and blackcurrant / dark fruit notes, nice acidity and overall quite light on the palate. We both wondered whether it was slightly corked, but maybe it was the smoke-taint. Who knows, but a shame.

December 31, 2017 - 12.5% abv. Fine, but no more. Classic Cabernet notes, but fairly low key and gentle. I didn't detect any real smoke taint.

September 3, 2012 - NobleRottersSydney - Alliteration night (Alio's, Surry Hills): [cork, 12.3%] {Gordon} This wine was roundly abused for bushfire smoke taint on release by Jeremy Oliver, who claimed the late proprietor Carrodus would never have sold it himself. Cash flow is king I suppose. Decanted 2 hours prior to consumption, the nose is initially pleasant enough, with sweet, rather simple blackcurrant fruit, but I couldn’t escape a distinct eucalypt note that instantly began to impress itself as smokiness. The power of positive sugestion is very strong! The palate isn’t unpleasant; perhaps a touch acrid; only medium-bodied, with some low chalky tannins. Medium length finish, although the back-palate is laregly absent. It’s OK, but not what you’d expect from YY, and its inadequacies were clearly demonstrated by the following 2004 wine. As for this, drink up.

January 20, 2012 - Nice nose, red fruit and less oak than the nose suggests. Red currant, strawberry jam, cedar and white pepper on the palate, some wet earth, silky tannins and medium length.

December 3, 2011 - Very exciting wine. The nose is full of blackberry and pencil lead aromas with toast and vanilla from the oak. The palate has excellent fresh acidity leading into a long finish.
