Bottom line: a core of oak infused minerality remarkably still persists in this golden but not brown wonder, a true testament to Chalone's initial promise as a resolute pursuer of the holy grail of world class excellence in Burgundian varietals. Well, enough recondite comments. The wine is wonderful -- more than I can endorse for those who subsequent to 1981 sheparded the Chalone empire into the ultimate sellout status, but that's another story...interesting thing is, I do have two more bottles... and they have't suffered any ullage to speak of....
