January 16, 2023 - VinApogée 2023. Gouté avec le Vigneron. Merveilleux de gourmandise sur la grenache. Fruits rouges très préservés par le millésime. 92

September 4, 2021 - A fine showing for the last bottle. Cork broke but still came out cleanly. A bit of a chill, and away we go. With Patrica Wells salmon in tomato cream sauce. Just a wonderful aged Rhone. Nice memories of visiting the domaine. Yum.

March 4, 2020 - Wow, even now, very good, very rich. Some backstory, making regular visits to the winery, and remember Madame Richaud, in the tasting room, we just wanted to buy 6 bottles for bringing home, and she was so nice, when we didn’t need a tasting, she would include a bottle of rose at no charge! She was very emphatic that it was indeed a 2007, even though no date on label, but it would be on the cork. What a lovely memory.

March 11, 2018 - Took a while to open up. Initial nose of cranberry. Once opened up, almost port-like: red fruit compote. A little hot on the alcohol.

April 3, 2016 - Opened at 54F 3 hours ahead, decanted 30 minutes ahead. Stood-up for the notable sediment. Striking, dark blood-red color. Creamy, sweetish nose, but lacking in fruit or complexity. The flavor, on the other hand, was intensely redolent of cassis - in fact, of creme de cassis - spices and licorice. Excellent acidity, soft and fading tannin. Very long. Consistent with the year 2007, Port-like. All in all, a wine that marries an exceptionally hot 2007 with Marcel Richaud's desire for l'Ebrescade to be a big, highly extracted wine. Richaud seems willing to tolerate substantial variation from year to year in order to be loyal to nature. This seems different from many winemakers, who go for a style and modify the growing and vinification to fashion the wine according to that style. In this year I would have dialed back the extraction and alcohol by picking earlier. I prefer Richaud's wines young and primal, with their fruit and complexity showing through, to this sort of wine which, in its eight year, seems to be fading fast. That said, the best '09 l'Ebrescade I've had to date was the most recent one, in June 2015.
