Community Tasting Notes 3

June 5, 2017 - Quite dark color of ruby brick. Nose is radishy and vegetable. Entry dark fruit and vegetables. Acidity is fairly high although not tremendously long. A touch green on the finish. This can still go longer for sure.

June 27, 2011 - Dark stale fruit. This has a very strong mouth with a fairly heavy weight of flavour. Stony granite with a steely finish. Length is decent with a lot of body. This lacks a bit of freshness to my taste. Flavourful but not at all heavy.

September 1, 2009 - So many French ‘04s have blossomed recently. Those are the modern wines – now the great majority of serious wines - wines with a moderate amount of everything, where they were trying to be made for drinking from day one, but didn’t quite manage because of the strange shape of the vintage. This is miles from that mainstream; a cuvee always designed for the long term, which in this vintage will only, only work with serious time. Two years back it was all about dullening tannins. Now the whole package is angular and aggressive. Quite a wide, pale rim contrasts with extreme central depth of colour. Decanted 2 hours. V limited nose, mostly of bitter blue ink, with just a little strawberry cream. Intensely, scouringly, front-palate. Like licking a rusty old iron gate, deep in a wet autumn forest. Other flavours just about let out by the structures are low-ripeness blackcurrant and perhaps the woodier side of pencil lead. On release this was asserted as a 15-20 year wine. I realise many would call as dead already, but I think it will come round. Could have structural and aromatic complexity. Is going to need 5+ more years though. 85-86 pts now, 85.
