December 13, 2019 - From jeroboam. Sadly, over the hill. Has that slightly oxidised nose and palate - more the latter than the former - from old Barolos. Got worse with air. Nice colour, no bricking. Short finish. Not unpleasant but far from what it should be.

December 5, 2016 - Here I found a darker and richer expression of Monprivato with notes of dried cherry, undergrowth, dusty earth, hints of mint and dried flowers. On the palate, broad fleshy textures were wonderfully offset by zesty acidity, as black cherry and minerals seemed to saturate the senses. It finished long and mouthwatering, yet perfectly mature.

  • Mistress of Wine Likes this wine:

November 23, 2016 - Translucent ruby. This bottle was decanted in the morning. Intensely floral with waves of cherry and rose and then earth, tar and peat. Still with firm tannic structure and a lingering finish. A memorable bottle.

    November 30, 2015 - Mini vertical of 1982, 1989, 2000, 2001 and 2007 Monprivatos.
Mature secondary notes of salt licorice, autumn leaves, mushrooms, violets. Tannins are very prevalent still but fine and partly resolved. Tar and licorice taste, very vital but not completely balanced as the tannins are taking over. Probably a lot better with food but drinking on its own felt a bit too austere. 91-92p

November 28, 2015 - Consistent with previous bottle. This had a bit more life, but still on the downward slope. Nose is dominated by leather, dried fruit, bog water and vegetable stew. Better on the palate. Dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ tannins, medium body and a medium intensity and length.

Probably better 10 years ago. Drink up!
