Community Tasting Notes 3

February 5, 2013 - Decanted 2 hours; consumed over 4 hours. Seemed to have opened up and be at its best in the 2 -4 hour window; but still, even at its best, was only slightly better than average. I was hoping that there would have been an upside to holding for a year, but alas, I think that this was always just meant to be just a middle-of-the-road, pasta pal. Average concentration on the nose and somewhere between one-dimensional and average+ complexity. I don’t think age is going to help this one out either, because it was already starting to thin out in the glass and show its age; and not in a good way. Still had that acidic backbone that stands up to Italian food pretty well, so that’s how I would consume it in the future; w/pasta, cheese, sausage, ect. 87 pts on its own, 89 pts with food; 88 pts total. Drink now, wouldn’t hold much longer.

October 1, 2011 - 2nd place finisher in a 7 flight, 2006 mid-price range ($30 - $45) piedmont tasting. Decanted 2 hours, and continued to improve into hour 4. Estimated peek drinking window 2013-2017. 90 pts on the nose for intensity and character, 90 pts for overall complexity, 90 pts when paired with food (Italian sausage)= 90 pts overall

June 12, 2011 - Predictable, medium intensity, young nebbiolo fruit with a slightly out of place smokey quality. Young, of course, structured, tannic and ripe at this stage it its life. The tannin fades and rounds with over an hour of air and the wine is quite drinkable with food. Although ripe, it's fairly light on its feet and elegant. This should be very enjoyable 5-7 years from now. Upside.
