  January 2, 2011 - this was pitch upon release, but is now a nice, round purple color. nose: quite closed at first. then showing some tightly-wound black currants. sour cherries and some flowers come out with time. palate: quite tannic. good grip. it has settled down a bit with five years of age, but its still a ball of compressed fruit. I get dried cranberry, a bit of sour cherry, which is smooth. toast highlights the fruit. chocolate and cherries on the finish. firm, but reserved. quite elegant at this point. very nice with a simple burger and bleu cheese.

  February 13, 2010 - Dark deep clouded purple. Strong toasted oak and black currant nose. Medium acid and body. Oak dominates the palate with smoke and touches of vanilla obscuring sour cherry fruit. A medium length finish continues with smoked vanilla.
