Community Tasting Notes 12

  • Mike Ritner Likes this wine:

January 9, 2014 - Dark red color. Medium body. The nose is very open and forthright with fragrant blackberry and wet earth notes. On the palate, more blackberries, as well as cloves and pepper; however it is also very austere and dry. This wine should be decanted for two or three hours and paired with some nice Italian food like lasagna or spaghetti. Overall a very good wine, but the fruit seems to be fading faster than the tannins so drink up.

January 22, 2013 - I've never had a drier wine, but alongside Italian food it was not bad. Probably would curl my hair if I drank it stand alone. Don't have anything to compare it to, so hard to evaluate.

March 18, 2012 - - Aromas of black currant and black pepper and has flavours of bell pepper, dusty and black currant - Must enjoy with red spicy sauce. Definitely a tannic bomb with a lingering finish. Medium bodied and requires several hours of decanting to enhance the complexity of the wine.

November 8, 2011 - Popped and poured, served with pasta / red sauce and consumed over the next 3 hours. Tart dusty cherry with some rust, herbs and minerality on the nose. Taste is tart red fruit up front with a rush in the palate towards herbalness followed by mouth drying tannins. Pretty similar to the last bottle we had more than a year ago absent the alcohol. Paired well with the red sauce; astringent on its own.

September 28, 2010 - Nice, great with the pasta/red sauce we had this evening, but on it's own a tannic monster! - Dark, medium/full bodied with a nose of plum, cherry, tobacco, bitter chocolate, earth and vanilla, great balancing acidity and tannic structure, interesting, very dry on the palate with good length (88 Points).
