January 25, 2012 - RWC Marchesi di Grésy's Martinenga Barbaresco Dinner (Acquerello Restaurant, San Francisco, California): Bricking medium dark red violet color; soapstone, dried cherry, light graham cracker, sandalwood nose; restrained, tart cherry, tart strawberry, sandalwood, soapstone palate; long finish

January 25, 2012 - Marchesi di Gresy Barbaresco Martinenga: 1978 to 2007 (Acquerello, San Francisco): Sheesh, both of the '82s looked younger than the '85s, in fact resembling the '96s even more closely! Interesting cinnamon and spice that I did not find in any of the other wines. More somber wine but bright and uplifted by its great acidity. Slightly gritty, tannic finish. Wow, is this undeveloped for a 30 year old wine, like tasting 1970 Latour at a similar age! This seems to be going nowhere fast, is still completely wrapped up in its structure and should last forever.

March 13, 2005 - an Afternoon at Mr. Tangs: Lyle - remmeber you told me to be carefull and not get addicted to these? well... this is the second one i have tried and i think that the addiction is showing its signs.
The nose... ahh...trufles, mushrooms, forest, this could be burgundy for all i know. The palatte is lacking fruit but its sily, smooth and light. This is made to sit and smell... taking small sips and just kicking back. well tomorrow is tri bicceri...time to meet some younger versions and decide what to get.
