  January 23, 2012 - First, and foremost, we have oak, lots of it. Not all bad, but still quite dominating. Next, it is easy to tell these grapes were grown at some considerable elevation, as the fruit is so focused. I'm pretty sure the yields were quite low, there is some serious concentration. It may just be me, but I gave this possibly superb wine "only" an 88 because of so much oak. At release, it might have been undrinkable. At close to 7 years off the vine, and at least 5 years in bottle = oak, oak, and more oak. Lets look at the redeeming qualities. There is big rich blueberry and blackberry fruit. There are none of those hard to describe "off" flavors. . The tannin structure is superb. Except for the oak, completely balanced, and layered. Refined finish with roasted blueberries, black licorice, and road tar.
