Community Tasting Notes 4

February 24, 2012 - Initial impressions were very offputting. A friend commented "it doesn't even smell safe to drink." I was getting mud and dirt and even some nasty vinyl-y odors. Similar on the palate, pretty much no fruit to speak of. After a few hours it became more recognizable as Bordeaux, but never got close to "hey, this isn't too bad."

August 19, 2011 - Tested at 60 F after 12 hr open, 375 ml bottle. Tastes ready to drink now. Alluring dusty nose of cooling spices (almost like a pinot), hints of nail polish and flowers, and dark berry-cherry fruit. In the mouth a balanced pulse of dryish smoky earth, savory light herbs, and slightly sour black fruit (currant--cherry or -pomegranate sounds right), with a mild bitter-chocolate taste, in roughly equal proportions. Some drying tannins in the finish which is short in fruit but long in herbs - had a delightful earthy sage-like taste lingering. 13% abv. Bordeaux Blend. Dry. Body medium, acid medium, tannin medium. Also paired well with very dark (90%) chocolate. Good QPR at USD 17.

April 10, 2011 - Very tannic and a bit flat to drink alone. Would have been a much better along with a good steak or another rich meal. Would definitely try again and let it breath a bit before drinking.

February 14, 2010 - Great with red meat (filet mignon)
