  July 16, 2014 - Quite light and transparent with a slight bricking hue and aronia colour, reminded me of PN. Nose of mild, lovely brett, old leather, dried berries, also - vegetable stew with meat, notes of parsil and some green spices. On a deep breath there was some menthol - cold and fresh. Without swirling there was a build up of clove aroma in the glass. Light, flowing body. Nuance of red currant, reminds me of mature, classic Rioja, may be even lighter. Dried black currants and black currant leaves on the palate, leaves stay there up to the finish, there were also some black pepper and a bite just before the finish. I believe this wine would be even better some 3-5 years ago. Would be awesome to compare it to a 30 y.o Rioja, don't know if I could tell them apart. (B+)

  A little decanting was in order and this Clos Rougeard was in a soft spot. Intoxicating and complex nose with a touch of cedar, lots of tobacco, a touch of bell pepper. All that is backed up by a good and fresh fruit.
  Round, it shows more earthy notes on the palate with a long finish. The balance is where it should be with a nice acidity.
  It somehow reminded me a little bit of a Bordeaux with more acidity and earthy notes.
  As usual, a great Clos Rougeard bottle!
