Two wines past their prime that still showcase their terroir. the 89 a darker, more muscular wine with hints of spices while the 86 was more feminine with floral hints. Both are an examples imho of not spectacular vintages will age but can still show terroir. Enjoyable yes but that's abt it. Rich was a library release so not a provenance issue but just age.

  July 20, 2020 - Way over its peak, light and almost transparent. The aroma of plum shows its age, oxidized a lot. But, the distinct, incomparable delicacy is still there, grand cru level. 90 for its overmaturity, 93 for the elegance.

  March 6, 2020 - 1989, Richebourg Grand Cru, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Burgund, Frankreich. Reifes Rubin, Trubstoff. In der Nase etwas irritierend, oxidative Noten, viel reife Pflaumenfrucht, dazu Trüffel, Leder, Unterholz und Pilze, weit entwickelt. Der Gaumen ist gut strukturiert, wirkt frischer als es die Nase vermuten lässt, rotfruchtig, mit noch immer Gerbstoff und einer saftigen Säure ausgestattet hallt der Wein im Abgang lange nach. Ich verfolgte diesen 89er über fast eine Stunde im Glas, war gespannt, ob sich die Nase verbessert. Fehlanzeige: Die etwas gar müden Düfte blieben. Für Altweintrinker sicher ein toller Genuss, ich war – immer im Kontext des allgemein hohen Niveaus – etwas enttäuscht von diesem 1989er. Vielleicht keine optimale Flasche?   June 15, 2019 - Library release ex domaine bottle. Mature color, brick, had an oxidative touch at the start but it blew off after about half an hour, hey presto we were saved. Nose of wet forest floor, dark fruit, some funk and spices. Richer than the DRC GrEch next to it. Very good but outshined by the 04Rich from Grivot next to it which had more energy and youthful freshness. Drink up.
