November 29, 2022 - Had it side by side to 96 Corton Renardes. Showed very similar to each other, so kudos to the consistent winemaking. I do not enjoy pre-2K Leroy. Bottles tend to show lean, almost like maison wines. And unfortunately, here the 1996 signature is also too present: shrill, unresolved acidity. I wrote this on Corton-Renardes: "This shows more 1996 than Leroy, ie, shrill acidity and unresolved redfruit vs wood spice vs green stems. In the palate thin and unbalanced tartness. The finish is long and structure in the backend leads me to believe this wine has the potential to improve in a decade +. There is also the potential for it to fall part, given how thin it feels in the frontal mouth. Acidity tends to protect wine for cellaring so I choose to believe this wine will show its potential in a decade's time. Whatever you do, DO NOT OPEN this now or just consign for sale. The label is impressive and shows you are a successful human but opening it will not impress you nor your drinking companion."

I think it applies here except that the finish was a bit more clipped here than in the grand cru. Side by side, most drinkers preferred this over boudots. I think it's best to keep cellaring Leroy 1996s or consign them for sale and redeploy your money elsewhere (for the money, '96 DRC grands deliver more consistent pleasure.)

November 10, 2021 - (at The Inn at Perry Cabin - St. Michaels). A treat. Absolutely stunning aromatics that announce Leroy. Fruit, sandalwood, oriental spices and dried orange. The palate has good feel. What keeps this from the next level is a lack of sweetness (which was a surprise after the aromatics) and mildly clipped finish. Ninety-nine point nose. (93)

July 20, 2020 - Bottle 668/4386. It possessed the Leroy aromatics but not as floral and explosive as the 96 SLB on the side. It was dark fruit driven more than red fruit. Firm palate and fruit with grip and tension. Like many Leroy’s NSG, it should benefit from further aging to open up the extra layer of sweetness and silkiness.

July 20, 2020 - 00668/4386. Superbly deep nose, purple red fruit, juicy plum, brown sugar, earth, grilled meat, deep spice. Fairly GC palate, deep resolved tension, very detailed in finish, subtle spice lingering around. Really lovely. 95

September 26, 2019 - 1996 Burgundy Retrospective - The Fourth Session (Clarity - Vienna, Virginia): Medium expressive iron driven nose displaying ripe concentrated black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, sap, soy, sandalwood, sous bois, Chinese medicine and iron. Excellent concentration, packed black fruit, slightly chewy, bright acidity, strong iron, and a long sweet black fruit driven finish with a hint of Chinese medicine at the end. It clearly displays the opulence of Leroy but also the earthy expression of NSG terroir. Another ideally stored bottle.
