October 20, 2009 - Garnet color. Blend of Tempranillo, Cab Sauv, Cab Franc. Dark, attractive nose: damp leather, wild blackberry, hot cinnamon candy, licorice, mint. Palate: intense, rich blackberry and currant with accents of black olive, tobacco, iron, and peppercorn. Focused acidity. Gorgeous fine-grain tannins and iron minerality linger through the solid finish. Given the soil, I expected more of a limestone minerality as opposed to the iron undertones present in this estate grown wine. Not a bad thing though, just unexpected. Excellent juice coming out of eastern Kentucky of all places. Shockingly wonderful!
