Community Tasting Notes 7

    October 27, 2018 - 14% alcohol.

Translucent ruby red color with a hint of bricking, especially towards the almost colorless rim. Sweet-toned, rich and somewhat oaky nose with aromas of kirschwasser, cocoa, some alcohol, a little bit of darker-toned plummy fruit, a hint of blackcurrant jam and a touch of truffle. The wine is ripe, ripe and dry-ish on the palate with rather pronounced Cognac oak and chocolatey woody tones, some cherry liqueur, a little bit of raspberry jam, light minty herbal tones and a hint of stony minerality. The wine is somewhat lacking in structure, thanks to the medium-to-moderately high acidity and very soft and mellow tannins. The finish is modest-to-medium grippy with long flavors of sweet, chocolatey oak, cherry liqueur, some blackberry jam, light woody Cognac tones, a little bit of sour cherry bitterness and a hint of caramel.

A still very youthful Barbaresco that doesn't show much development at the age of 12 years. However, the wine could use some development, since the oak tones feel rather dominant here and mainly the ripe, sweet-toned and almost jammy fruit flavors are the only things that manage to cut through. All in all, the wine feels rather soft, sweet-toned and simple with insufficient tannins to lend the wine enough backbone. A modernist crowdpleaser Nebbiolo that fails to impress. At 26,90€ you can find better.

October 27, 2018 - At first oaky followed by tight red berries, cherry flavours, nice acidity but not perfectly balanced since tannins do not support the overall experience.

April 20, 2014 - Translucent ruby red color with almost colorless rim. Really heavily cherry-driven nose with aromas of very ripe red cherry, almost cherry marmalade with notes of truffle and smoky earth. Dry and moderately full-bodied on the palate with rich cherry flavors, spicy oak, some chocolate and hints of minerality. Good acidity, but the tannins, albeit ample, are a bit too soft and mellow for what I'd expect for a Nebbiolo. The finish is rich and complex with persistent dry flavors of ripe cherries, bitter spices, some oaky chocolate, a little toffee and hints of sour cherry bitterness.

A smooth, rich and surprisingly soft Barbaresco from the easier-to-approach end. Lots of good varietal typicity with great balanced acidity, but overall the wine feels a bit too ripe and oaky for my taste with a bit too mellow tannins. Overall a rather polished and thus a bit characterless effort that most likely is better fit for earlier enjoyment than for cellaring. Good with food, but doesn't have much of stuff to remember. Somewhat worth its price at 26,90€, but I've had better.

    November 20, 2013 - nose-violets, smoked meat, Worcestershire sauce

    Black pepper, cherry, lead pencil

All barely there and in a word- Boring
Lesson of the day- Life's too short for boring wine

January 14, 2012 - Rather oaky or then really needing some years in the cellar. Less tannin than expected, good balance.
