Community Tasting Notes 8

June 24, 2010 - Dinner at NOLA. Color light straw yellow, clear. Initial smell had an unusual toasted fennel note that dissipated quickly, leaving a fragrant bouquet of lemon curd, fresh cut pear, a little honeydew melon, baby powder, and meadow flowers. Actually a very interesting nose that seems very much like a blend of grapes, but obviously is not. Smooth mouthfeel and a little heavy on the palate, redolent of pears, some verbena lemon, melon, and spice, brightened with a little chalk minerality. Flavors are bright but acidity seems medium-plus, perhaps tempered by the weight of the body. A rather lengthy smooth finish. Overall very delicious, and a different profile than I expected from a Cali Chard. Spouse loved it, and it paired very well with garlic crusted drum and brabant potatoes, crimini mushrooms, bacon in sauce beurre rouge. If the price of this around 20 retail, the value is very good if not excellent.

April 15, 2010 - Bright, grassy-yellow color. Nose smells of lemon curd, white flowers, stones. Melon and lemon on the palate with really bright acidity that offers a real spine to the wine. Rather long finish, that is spiked slightly with a hint of alcohol on the back side. Very nice Cali Chard. Nice value at $18.

February 13, 2010 - Bright golden yellow color, with faint lemon peel, orange blossom, and spice on the nose. The palate shows apricot, white melon, pear, and mineral flavors. Soft mixed fruit notes expand through the finish. Medium bodied and pleasant.

January 29, 2010 - Clear straw yellow core to watery rim. Clean moderately pronounced nose of mango, spice, pear and citrus. Palate has good concentration with medium acidity and no tannin. Flavors of tropical, stone fruit and spice dominate. Medium bodied, intensity alcohol and length.
